Awarding Over $1 Million in Scholarships To Date
The Vancouver Canucks Alumni is dedicated to assisting worthy student-athletes who excel in the game of hockey by awarding hockey scholarships to those who hope to attend an accredited University or College.
Each year the Vancouver Canucks Alumni awards over $50,000 in scholarships to the most deserving BC youth hockey players, notably through the BCHL, BC Hockey, the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association and the Pat Quinn Classic. Awards are determined by the applicant’s level of community service, volunteerism, good citizenship and scholastic standing.
Pat Quinn Legacy Fund Scholarship Applications Now Open!

The Vancouver Canucks Alumni are now accepting applications for the Pat Quinn Legacy Fund Scholarship!
An Honoured Member of the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, both the tournament and the scholarships recognize Pat Quinn’s passion for creating leaders on and off the ice, and his unwavering commitment to giving back to the community.
The selection committee, which includes a representative of the Quinn Family, will review the applications and select the recipients.

Applicants who satisfy the following criteria are eligible:
Student Athletes who participated and remained in good standing with a credentialed university athletic association (i.e. U Sports, NCAA, NAIA, UAA, etc.) during their full post-secondary varsity athletic eligibility
Student Athletes retired from post-secondary varsity athletics due to medical requirements, as long as supporting documentation from the team’s medical staff outlining such requirement for retirement
Student Athletes who have been accepted to, or are currently enrolled in, post-graduate educational programs in pursuit of a professional degree/designation (i.e. J.D., M.D., Ph. D., etc.)
Eligible sports shall include all colligate sanctioned varsity level competitive sports. First preference shall be provided to hockey athletes. Swimming athletes shall be considered second in line if meeting qualifications. All other athletes shall be considered thereafter
Participants must hold Canadian Citizenship. Proof of citizenship may be requested.

Supporting documents shall include, but are not limited to:
A current official transcript of the applicant’s post-secondary or post graduate education
Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s coach or athletic director outlining the student athlete meets all requirements listed in the Eligibility section.
Essay outlining reason(s) to be considered and selected for the Pat Quinn Legacy Fund (should not be more than two pages long, single spaced)
Applicant’s list of leadership awards and honours

Applications will be open effective no later than March 17 of each calendar year, and will remain open until April 30 of each calendar year.
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a committee whose decisions will be final in all respects.
Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:
Securing a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 at time of post-secondary graduation.
Those who were not placed on academic probation during any time during their undergraduate athletic career.
Individuals exemplifying Pat’s qualities of integrity, leadership, fairness, trustworthy, excellence, and thirst for knowledge.
Successful recipients must maintain a full course load as outlined by the institution of attendance.
Funding is be distributed on an annual basis.
Applicants may resubmit an application for each review cycle. Applicants can apply multiple years but shall note successful applicants are not guaranteed to receive funds in multiple cycles. Previous recipients who are re-applying must provide a certified proof of grades from previous scholastic year by the university.

Recipients will be notified no later than May 30 of each calendar year
Awarding of funds are subject to recipient submitting verification of enrolment and participation in the post graduate program.
If it is learned that the recipient withdraws from the post graduate program, or information related to sections 1 and/or 3 above differs from which was originally represented during the application and selection process, the award will be forfeited and repaid and, where practicable, awarded to an alternate recipient.

Funding is payable in the currency of the country where the accredited post graduate institution is located.
Funding shall be used towards university associated costs (i.e.: tuition, books, tutor, education supplies, etc.).
Up to $5000 will be granted in each calendar year, and will be in the sole discretion of the selection committee.
Funding shall be increased or decreased as determined solely by the selection committee and available level of funds.
Funds will be issued in the form of a cheque payable to the recipient.
Funds are for a one-time payment.
Applicants may apply for funding each calendar year, even if the applicant has received funding from the Pat Quinn Legacy Fund previously.

Any taxes on awards are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
By participating, recipients and applicants agree:
The decisions of the selection committee are final.
The grants are subject to Canada Revenue Agency charitable regulations.
The use of their names and/or likeness, where legal and applicable, for advertising, promotional and publicity purposed without written consent or compensation.
To release, discharge or hold harmless the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation, its board of directors, officers and members, Pat Quinn Scholarship and Legacy Fund selection committee members, sponsors, from damages or claims arising out of their participation in this program.
All rights, title and interest, including copyrights of essays submitted, belong to the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation and shall reserve the right to edit, adjust, modify, condense, publish and/or excerpt essays.

Substitutions or transfers of scholarship and legacy funds are not permitted. The use of funds must be utilized by the successful recipient for the intended purpose as outlined in the Legacy Funding Section.
Funding is limited to one per household unless the selection committee deems that circumstances warrant otherwise.
The Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation and the Pat Quinn Legacy Fund Selection Committee reserves the right to amend the terms from time to time as reasonably necessary.
The Vancouver Canucks Alumni Foundation and the Pat Quinn Scholarship and Legacy Fund Selection Committee reserves the right to interpret these rules and to make decisions concerning the acceptance and use of the funding in situations not covered by these guidelines.

GINO ODJICK GRANT
Exciting news for Indigenous hockey players! University Canada West (UCW) is offering The Gino Odjick Grant, a full-tuition scholarship valued at over $40,000. Named after Canucks legend Gino Odjick, this award is available to qualified Indigenous students—male or female—pursuing an undergraduate degree or an MBA at UCW starting this September.
This scholarship honors Gino's legacy as a hockey powerhouse, leader, and mentor, providing an Indigenous hockey player the chance to achieve higher education beyond the rink. This scholarship reflects his legacy, fierce determination, and unwavering support to his community and teammates.
