Canucks Alumni Luncheon - An ‘Elbows Up’ Celebration

By Rob Wilkins

Over the past several years the Hot Stove session at the annual Canucks Alumni Luncheon has taken off like a Quinn Hughes howitzer blast from the blueline.

Stand by for more of the same.

With the return of emcee Joey Kenward and panel host Don Taylor, the 2025 edition of the Hot Stove segment on November 20, 2025 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will be a guaranteed classic.

Alumni Luncheon Chair Nathan Lafayette took the puck and skated circles with it when the idea was hatched to introduce a ‘Team Canada’ flare to this year’s panel. It instantly hit home with him being a gold medalist representing Canada at the 1993 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Sweden.

An active member of the Canucks Alumni, Lafayette approached his former teammate and Canucks’ legend Trevor Linden to participate. When the 1991 Canada Cup silver medalist and two-time Canadian Olympian in 1998 and 2002 accepted Nathan’s invitation, the Luncheon Committee was off and running enjoying the power play.

Joining the panel with Trevor will be fellow Canucks Alumni members Garth Butcher and Dan Hamhuis along with one of Canada’s most accomplished female hockey players, Meghan Agosta.

Butcher contributed to hockey history with Team Canada winning its first-ever gold medal at the 1982 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships under national team coach Dave King. To this day, Garth refers to that gold-medal experience as his greatest thrill in hockey.

Hamhuis was a member of the 2010-11 Canucks team that went to the Stanley Cup Final against Boston. He enjoyed international success winning gold with Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, as well as the 2007 and 2015 IIHF World Championships and silver at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships. Born in Smithers, Hamhuis was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame this past summer.

Meghan Agosta is a three-time gold medalist from the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, including being named most valuable player of the 2010 Vancouver Games. Add to that impressive list being a multi-medalist at the Women’s World Championships with two gold medals and six silvers.

Jot down the date: Thursday, November 20 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
